Privacy Policy

Nomen is a product of Brett Forsyth (“we”, “us”, “our”). This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how we handle it.

The short version: Your photos never leave your computer. We collect the minimum data needed to sell you a license and keep it working. We don’t track your usage, don’t run analytics on your matching activity, and don’t sell your data to anyone.

What Nomen Does Locally

Nomen is a species matching plugin for Adobe Lightroom Classic. All AI models run entirely on your computer. When you match photos:

• Your photos are processed locally. They are never uploaded, transmitted, or sent to any server.
• Match results (species suggestions, confidence scores) are generated on your machine and written directly to your Lightroom catalog.
• No usage telemetry, matching statistics, or photo metadata are collected or transmitted during the matching process.

What We Collect

Account and Purchase Data

When you purchase a license, we collect:

• Name and email address (for your account and license delivery)
• Payment information (processed by Stripe; we do not store your full card number)
• Purchase history (which license tier you bought and when)

License Activation

When you activate your license key, the plugin sends:

• Your license key
• A machine identifier (a hash generated from your hardware, not your hostname or username)
• The plugin version number

This is used solely to verify your license is valid and that you have not exceeded your activation limit.

License Validation

The plugin checks license validity every 30 days. This check transmits only your license key and machine identifier. There is a 30-day grace period. If you are offline for up to 60 days, the plugin continues to work normally.

Species Package Downloads

When you download species packages (model weights and species embeddings), we log the download request (license key, package name, timestamp) for bandwidth management. No photo data or matching activity is transmitted.

What We Do Not Collect

• Your photos or image data, ever, under any circumstances
• Species matching results, confidence scores, or match history
• Usage statistics (how many photos you match, how often you use the plugin)
• GPS coordinates or location data from your photos
• Lightroom catalog contents or metadata
• Keystroke or interaction telemetry

How We Use Your Data

• To deliver your license key and provide account access
• To verify your license is valid and within activation limits
• To process payments and issue refunds
• To send transactional emails (purchase confirmation, license key delivery, password resets)
• To respond to support requests you initiate

We do not send marketing emails unless you explicitly opt in. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for their marketing purposes.

Third-Party Services

We use a limited number of third-party services to operate the Nomen website and licensing system:

Each of these services has its own privacy policy. We select providers that meet reasonable data protection standards.

Cookies

The Nomen website uses cookies only for essential functionality:

• Session cookies for login and account access
• WooCommerce cart cookies for the purchase flow

We do not use analytics cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party advertising cookies. There are no Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or similar tracking tools on this site.

Data Retention

• Account data: retained as long as your account is active. You can request deletion at any time.
• Purchase records: retained for accounting and legal compliance (typically 7 years).
• License activation records: retained as long as your license is active to enforce activation limits.
• Support correspondence: retained for as long as needed to resolve your issue and provide ongoing support.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your account and associated data
• Export your data in a portable format
• Withdraw consent for optional communications

Data Security

We protect your data using industry-standard measures including HTTPS encryption for all data in transit, secure password hashing, and limited access controls. Payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe, which is PCI DSS Level 1 certified.

Children

Nomen is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. If we make material changes to how we handle your data, we will notify you by email.
